The razing began this week on the long-shuttered Winn-Dixie shopping center to pave the way for a new $67 million, mixed-use project set to transform Maitland’s downtown area into Maitland City Centre. Although the former grocery store and popular Jeremiah’s Italian Ice shop were torn down, new spaces will be built by the developers — Lamm & Co. Partners, Millenia Partners and The Allen Morris Co.— to house a new 1,200-square-foot Jeremiah’s, along with a 2,333-square-foot Starbucks with a drive-thru and patio, and 1,500-square-foot Subway.
